'Would've Been Amazing If...,' Yashasvi Jaiswal On Missing First Home Century

Yashasvi Jaiswal's first-over dismissal on Day 2 may have triggered a feeling that the dominant young left-hander missed out on what should've been his maiden home Test hundred, but the Mumbaikar held fewer qualms and stands unfazed, stating as long as his "process" was done right, the milestones would come.

Speaking to press after stumps on Friday (January 26) where he finished 80 after raising hopes of a substantial knock late with his blitz late on Day 1 against England, Jaiswal agreed it would've been "amazing" to have raised his bat for a three-figure milestone.

However, he emphasized how the aggressive mindset had taken him 20 short of a century amidst talks of him being dismissed playing an uppish drive while starting fresh against the clever part-time spin of Joe Root

Jaiswal Opens Up After Missing Out On Ton

"Yes, it would have been amazing if I scored a hundred but I think what brought me here was my process and thinking," Jaiswal said, declaring he believes in persisting with his natural game.

"I was trying to do my best and sometimes it (playing aggressive cricket) can work well, sometimes it won't. I can commit a mistake and get out but I am trying to make sure that I learn from my mistakes," he added

Jaiswal also reiterated it wasn't a premeditated thought to attack the spinners from the word go as he did in abundance the moment they came on.

"I don't think it was any tactic (attacking England spinners early on Thursday evening), as I was just thinking to play well against certain balls, play some positive shots," Jaiswal said.

Even though he missed out, the 21-year-old repaid the trust shown in him by the team management and the selectors and helped India push their first-innings lead to a daunting 175* by the close of stumps with still three wickets intact.
