Former South African captain and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) legend AB de Villiers has hinted at the possibility of making a return to the IPL franchise in some capacity soon. The cricketer joined the RCB camp in IPL 2011 and remained one of their integral forces until he announced his exit from all forms of competitive cricket following the conclusion of the IPL 2021 season in the UAE.

During a recent interview, the Proteas batting legend claimed that he still has a good connection with RCB fans from Bangalore and has always appreciated their love and support throughout his journey at the franchise.

AB de Villiers opens up on possible RCB comeback

AB de Villiers has expressed his desire to return to the RCB franchise in some capacity for future IPL seasons. While speaking with India Today, the 39-year-old said:

“I hope so. My heart is with RCB, having played there for many many years. I have got a very good connection with the fans of Bangalore. I’ve always appreciated all the support and love over the years. I can’t guarantee anything. But I would absolutely love to see myself in the RCB colours in the future.”

A bona fide RCB and South African batting great, AB de Villiers played his last competitive match in Sharjah towards the closing stages of the 2021 IPL season. For his decade-long contributions to his beloved IPL franchise, the batting barbarian was inducted into RCB’s ‘Hall of Fame’ alongside fellow fanatic Chris Gayle back in May 2022 by none other than long-time skipper and teammate Virat Kohli himself.

Even though AB de Villiers has not played a single competitive match since October 2021, the former South African international continues to entertain fans by giving his insights into worldwide cricketing affairs.

The legendary batsman was also extremely vocal about RCB’s recent player retentions and releases for the forthcoming IPL 2024 auctions.
