In a historic display of aggressive batting, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma launched a relentless assault on the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), chasing down 166 runs in less than ten overs, setting a new record that left cricket fans and experts astonished.
Even the legendary Sachin Tendulkar was left in awe of their performance as they dismantled Lucknow on May 8 in Hyderabad.
Head smashed a fifty off just 16 balls, while Abhishek reached his fifty in 19 balls, propelling SRH to a commanding victory in just 9.4 overs, handing Lucknow one of the most biggest defeats in IPL history.
The Aussie dasher remained unbeaten on 89 off 30 balls, with Abhishek contributing 75 off 28 balls, as the duo punished the LSG bowlers with 13 sixes and 16 fours. The Sunrisers' dugout watched in amazement as the openers showcased their exceptional batting prowess.
Scoring 167 runs in 9.4 overs, SRH set a new record for the highest total in the first 10 overs of an IPL match, demonstrating their ability to break records effortlessly. Additionally, their victory with 62 balls remaining is a new IPL record for the most deliveries left while chasing a target of 100 or more.
Earlier in the game, despite a slow start, LSG managed to post 165/4, thanks to an unbeaten 99-run partnership between Pooran and Badoni. However, it was overshadowed by the remarkable performance of Head and Abhishek, who continue to rewrite IPL records with their consistent excellence.
This outstanding performance bodes well for SRH as they approach the playoffs, providing a significant boost to their confidence. Additionally, it served as a perfect birthday gift for captain Pat Cummins, as SRH reclaimed their spot in the top three of the IPL 2024 points table.
