Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan, plying his trade for Birmingham Phoenix, will soon join his national teammates for the upcoming Asia Cup and World Cup tournaments.

The cricketer recently had a chat with renowned Pakistan journalist Saj Sadiq, where he spoke about team’s mindset ahead of the two ODI events, and also asserted the importance of winning a World Cup in India.

Khan speaks his mind out for Pakistan’s World Cup prospects

Shadab Khan recently turned up for Birmingham Phoenix in their six-wicket defeat to Welsh Fire in Men’s The Hundred 2023 competition. After the game, the 24-year-old caught up with Saj Sadiq on the latter’s YouTube channel, where he talked about Pakistan’s Asia Cup chances and thought process for the imminent World Cup in India.

When asked if he considers Pakistan as one of the favourites for the continental event, the all-rounder said:

“Yes definitely. The conditions (in Sri Lanka and Pakistan) suits us, but as favourites we have to have to uphold that reputation with good performances. Any team can perform well, but on paper we have a balanced unit.”

Khan was also asked if the Pakistan team has made any plans to contain India’s batting icon Virat Kohli when the two sides collide in the tournament on September 2. He stated:

“There are no specific plans for Virat Kohli. Everyone makes similar plans for opposition batters, which is to bowl in the right areas and hope for the batsman to commit a mistake.”

The cricketer also acknowledged that Pakistan’s upcoming trip for the World Cup will be the first visit to India for several of his teammates. Despite lacking experience of playing in India, the Pakistani star claimed that his team is confident of putting up a good show, and a World Cup win in India would be “Sone pe suhaga” (an icing on the cake) for them.
