Virat Kohli’s camaraderie with Rohit Sharma is one for the ages. Successfully navigating the Indian team to unprecedented success over their decade-and-a-half long careers, their individual and combined stardom have smitten cricketing, as well as non-cricketing fans the world over.

Apparently, the seeds of their mutual admiration were sown back in their early days itself.

Back in 2011, after India’s World Cup win, a young Kohli was seen praising his Indian teammate through an interview. The old footage recently resurfaced on social media, where fans can sense Kohli’s maturity at a young age and his utmost respect for Sharma.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been two of the biggest pillars of Indian batting, ever since the latter was elevated as team’s opener for the 2013 Champions Trophy. The two cricketers have claimed numerous batting accolades and contributed in countless match-winning efforts for the Indian team.

Apparently, Kohli realised Sharma’s potential back in 2011 itself, when the RCB zealot was 22 years old.

During the IPL 2011 season, the Delhi-born cricketer caught up with Vimal Kumar where he was asked to name his pick as the most impressive player of that tournament. Kohli, without any hesitation, named Sharma and went on to praise his IPL exploits for the Mumbai Indians.

Both Kohli and Sharma will now be looked upon to command Team India’s ship at the upcoming Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. The much-awaited continental tournament itself serves as a dress rehearsal for the ‘Men in Blue’ ahead of the ODI World Cup at home later this year.
