Is Ben Stokes Battling Asthma? Inhaler Use Sparks Controversy Amidst England's Awful Campaign

England's star all-rounder, Ben Stokes, made headlines and sparked curiosity in the cricketing world when he was spotted using an inhaler during a practice session ahead of England's crucial game against Sri Lanka in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023

This incident has led to speculation about his health, particularly whether he may be dealing with asthma.

During England's practice session in Bengaluru for the upcoming must-win match against Sri Lanka, Ben Stokes, England's MVP from the 2019 World Cup, was under the spotlight.

The maestro all-rounder was engaged in an extensive training session in Bengaluru, involving batting in the nets, bowling, and various fielding drills. What caught the attention of onlookers was his use of an asthma pump during breaks.

While viral images of Stokes using an inhaler have raised concerns among fans, there is no official report to suggest that the ace all-rounder is grappling with a significant health issue. Some athletes use inhalers for various respiratory problems, and a few may rely on them if they experience exercise-induced asthma.

It's worth noting that inhaler usage doesn't exclusively indicate asthma. Doctors may prescribe inhalers for a range of respiratory issues. Some athletes may encounter shortness of breath during or after strenuous physical activity, leading to the use of inhalers.

Inhalers can also be utilized for the administration of non-performance-enhancing steroids. Given that Stokes has been contending with knee and hip injuries, his inhaler use could be in accordance with medical recommendations.

Many professional footballers, for instance, compete at the highest level of sports while managing asthma. In Stokes' case, neither the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) nor the player has confirmed any asthma diagnosis.

England's current position on the Points Table of the Cricket World Cup is far from ideal, as they currently occupy the ninth spot with just one win in four games. With a challenging match against the formidable Indian team looming, a victory against the Lankan Lions will lift their spirits.

The defending champions require a swift turnaround to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages alive. To achieve this, they'll rely on Ben Stokes to bring his A-game in the upcoming matches.
