Team India will be playing a three-match ODI series against South Africa, starting on Sunday, December 17, at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg. KL Rahul has been appointed as the captain in the absence of the regular captain, Rohit Sharma.

This will be the first time Team India plays an ODI match since their heartbreaking defeat in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 against Australia last month. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will miss the action as they have opted for a break from white-ball cricket after the World Cup.

During the press conference on the eve of the first ODI against South Africa, KL Rahul shared his thoughts and discussed the prospect of returning to T20I cricket for India and expressed willingness to bat in the middle order if given the opportunity, emphasising his commitment to playing for the country.

“Yeah, of course, I want to represent the country in as many games as I can. Unfortunately, I have missed a lot of cricket because of injuries. So, I would like to make the most of my time and play whatever role the team expects from me. I have done that throughout my career.”

Here’s, it’s worth mentioning that KL Rahul hasn't featured for India in T20Is alongside Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli since the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Looking ahead to the T20 World Cup 2024, just months away, Rahul is keen to assert himself and earn a spot back in the team.
