Known for his discipline on and off the field, former captain Virat Kohli played his 500th international match on Thursday, when India and West Indies locked horns in the second Test at Port of Spain, which also happens to be the 100th Test between these two nations.

Kohli looked fluent and in good touch as compared to the rusty self in Dominica, scoring boundaries and running singles and doubles during his knock of 87*. Kohli along with Ravindra Jadeja (36*) added 106 runs for the fifth wicket for India, taking them to safety at stumps on Day 1 at 288 for 4.

Former West Indies fast bowler Ian Bishop, who is currently doing commentary hailed Kohli's commitment.

The cricketer-turned-commentator On-Air also wished he could urge young West Indies batters to learn the value of running singles and doubles from the former India skipper and imbibe these traits.

Here's what Bishop said

“Here’s a guy who’s around for 500 games, knows the value of each run. Putting his body on the line, that tells you about his commitment. I wish I could tell every youngster in the Caribbean to run like that and not wait for boundaries,”

Bishop was referring to Kohli's dive on the final ball of the 72nd over while running back for a quick double, despite playing 119 balls already.

Kohli, 34, will be eager to push on for his 29th Test and 76th international century when play resumes on Day 2.
