Bengal stalwart Manoj Tiwary hung up his spikes for the last time on Sunday, February 18, during the climactic Ranji Trophy match of 2024 against Bihar.

The 38-year-old cricketer, renowned for his batting skills on the field, left the game with a parting shot at none other than the legendary MS Dhoni, causing intense discussions across the cricketing fraternity.

Manoj Tiwary lambasts MS Dhoni

Manoj Tiwary, whose international cricketing journey was highlighted by a memorable century against West Indies in 2011, expressed profound dissatisfaction with his exclusion from the Indian squad shortly after his career-defining performance.

Despite showcasing a calibre that hinted at the potential for greatness, Tiwary found himself sidelined, a decision he attributes to MS Dhoni's selection choices.

Reflecting on his career, the right-handed batsman conveyed through News18, albeit indirectly, his bafflement over the decision to exclude him from the Indian team.

Tiwary suggested that, given the opportunities afforded to his contemporaries, he too could have risen to the heights of modern-day legends such as Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

“I would like to ask Dhoni why was I dropped from the playing XI in 2011 after scoring the century? I had the potential to be a hero just like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli but could not be. Today, when I see many people getting more opportunities on TV, I feel sad,” lamented Tiwary.

It is worth mentioning that throughout his career, Tiwary took the field in 12 ODIs, amassing 287 runs at an average of 26.09, which included a stunning century and a half-century.

Despite this, his appearances remained limited, with only three T20Is to his name, leaving fans and pundits alike to ponder what might have been had he been given more opportunities to shine on the international stage.
