Team India crushed England by 336 runs at Edgbaston in Birmingham to level the five-match Test series 1-1. Captain Shubman Gill led his team from the front by plundering scores of 269 and 161, aggregating 430 runs in the process to mark the second highest in a single match.

Fittingly, the Indian skipper was also adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for his twin tons. As Gill soaked up all the applause with India’s historic win, the cricketer kicked off the post-match press conference with a playful jab, thus setting the stage for his now-viral mic drop moment.

Shubman Gill Searches For A ‘Familiar Face’ In Press Conference

Amid the celebratory atmosphere, Shubman Gill walked into the press conference with a wide grin. Much to everybody’s surprise, and eventual laughter, the charismatic Indian batter started scanning the room with mock curiosity.

Gill quipped:

“I can’t see my favorite journalist?! Where is he? I was hoping to see the one who asked about India's record at Edgbaston.”

For the unversed, Shubman Gill was referring to the reporter who had questioned him about Team India’s winless track record in Tests at the iconic Edgbaston stadium in Birmingham. The incident occurred a day prior to the launch of the second Test of the five-match series at the venue.

At the time, Shubman Gill had confidently responded that this Indian team is the “Best Indian Cricket Team” to have visited England.

India Script History With Series-Levelling Win

Apart from registering their first-ever Test win in Edgbaston, the outcome also marked Team India’s biggest margin of victory away from home. Shubman Gill, who was appointed India’s Test captain last month, also enjoyed his first taste of success in the format as skipper.

India aggregated over 1,000 runs with the bat across both innings, with captain Gill making 269 and 161. While Mohammed Siraj picked up six English wickets in the first innings, Akash Deep replicated the feat in the second to complete 10 for the match to record his career-best haul.
