‘What's The Use Of Talent?’: Gavaskar 'Slams' Riyan Parag's Reckless Shot Vs SRH

The Rajasthan Royals(RR) dreams of winning a second IPL title were shattered on Friday night after they lost the second qualifier in Chennai to Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH).

Chasing a modest target of 176, RR’s batters struggled on a spin-friendly pitch, eventually slumping to 67-3 by the ninth over.

The Royals were confused since the pitch was favorable for spin bowling due to the absence of dew.

Gavaskar Fumes Over Parag's Dismissal

Riyan Parag, despite being RR's leading run scorer with 573 runs in 16 matches, faced heavy criticism from legendary former India cricketer & legend Sunil Gavaskar.

Parag, who scored only 6 runs off 9 deliveries, attempted a risky shot against Shahbaz Ahmed, resulting in a simple catch for Abhishek Sharma at deep mid-wicket.

Sunil Gavaskar did not hold back his frustration on air, exclaiming, “Seriously, seriously? What’s the use of all that talent if you’re not going to think? What kind of shot is that? Seriously.”

He emphasized the importance of combining talent with temperament, adding, “So much talent… if you don’t have the temperament, it’s not going to work. So what if you had a few dot balls? You can make up for that.”

Parag's outstanding season

Parag had played a key role for RR, therefore his dismissal was a terrible way to finish the season. He played a vital role in their Eliminator victory against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), scoring an important 36 and anchoring the innings. However, his lack of composure in the second qualifier proved costly for his team.

Despite Parag's overall success, ending the season as the third-highest run-getter behind Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad.

With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad(SRH) set up a rematch against Kolkata Knight Riders(KKR) in what promises to be an exciting finale to the IPL 2024 season on May 26.
