India’s first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad turned out to be a one-sided contest, with the home team winning by an innings and 140 runs inside just three days. Led by young captain Shubman Gill, India completely dominated with both bat and ball, and in the process, several records tumbled.
West Indies batted first and could only put up 162 runs. In reply, India piled on 448/5 before declaring, thanks to brilliant centuries from KL Rahul (100), Ravindra Jadeja (104*), and Dhruv Jurel (125).
In the second innings, West Indies again collapsed for just 146, giving India an easy victory and a 1-0 lead in the series. Bowlers Jadeja (4 wickets), Mohammed Siraj (3 wickets), Kuldeep Yadav (2 wickets), and Washington Sundar (1 wicket) ensured a clinical finish.

Ravindra Jadeja surpasses MS Dhoni
Vice-captain Ravindra Jadeja once again proved why he’s India’s most valuable Test all-rounder. He not only scored an unbeaten 104 but also picked up four wickets. During his knock, Jadeja smashed five sixes, taking his career tally to 80 sixes in Tests.

Shubman Gill equals Sunil Gavaskar’s rare feat
Captaining India in a home Test for the first time, Gill scored a fluent half-century (50 off 91 balls). By doing so, he became the first Indian captain in 47 years to score a fifty in his debut home Test as skipper. The last to do it was the legendary Sunil Gavaskar in 1978 against the same opponents.
KL Rahul struck his 11th Test century and his first at home in almost nine years. His hundred took him past Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir’s tally of nine Test centuries as an opener. With 10 such tons, Rahul now sits behind only Sunil Gavaskar (33), Virender Sehwag (22), and Murali Vijay (12).

This innings-and-140-run victory entered the record books as India’s third-largest win against West Indies in Tests. Only the 272-run win in Rajkot in 2018 and the 141-run win in Roseau in 2023 were bigger.
