Former Pakistan pacer, Shoaib Akhtar announced Pakistan's ambitious plans for the World Cup 2023 scheduled in India.

Shoaib Akhtar pledged for a Pakistan World Cup win in India.

Echoing the sentiments of many back home, Akhtar vocally expressed Pakistan's intent to "avenge the 2011 World Cup defeat" by lifting the coveted trophy in Ahmedabad.

To rewind, the World Cup 2011 semi-final remains an unforgettable clash for both nations. Hosted in Mohali, India clinched a 29-run victory over their arch-rivals and set the stage for their ultimate title win. A decade later, the memories are still vivid, with Akhtar invoking them to fuel the fire for the upcoming matches.

“We'll avenge the 2011 World Cup defeat and win the 2023 Trophy at Ahmadabad. We Pakistanis are already visualizing this,” enthused Akhtar while speaking at a virtual press conference organized by Star Sports.

The statement holds even more weight given the backdrop of Pakistan's World Cup history against India. The two cricketing giants have met seven times in the ODI World Cup, with India securing wins in each encounter.

Fans from both nations are eagerly awaiting their face-off on October 14 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, especially in light of these renewed claims of rivalry.

Further intensifying the anticipation is the Asia Cup 2023. Both teams are currently aiming for the top spots in the Super Fours stage. Their earlier encounter in the tournament was curtailed by rain, leaving fans yearning for the upcoming clash on Sunday, September 10, in Colombo.

Meanwhile, the statement by Akhtar has set the stage for a thrilling contest. Only time will tell if Pakistan can transform Akhtar's words into reality or if India will continue its World Cup dominance over its neighbours.
