After wrapping up the five-match T20I series against England with a 4-1 win, Team India has now shifted its focus to the upcoming three-match ODI series. Star players like Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are back in the setup, while fans are excited to witness India's final ODI assignment before the Champions Trophy.

As the first ODI approaches in Nagpur, Shubman Gill reflected on India's Border-Gavaskar Trophy loss, star pacer's absence,  recent challenges, and more.

Gill Reflects On Team’s Current Form

Team India has been having a tough time in the longest format. After facing a disappointing whitewash against the Kiwis on home soil, they lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after ten years of dominance. After those consecutive setbacks, questions about their performance in the Test format were raised. Shubman Gill reflected on this before facing England in the first ODI.

“One series does not define the form of the whole team. There are a lot of players who, in the past, have performed consistently in a lot of series and tournaments. Definitely, we did not play as per our expectations in the Australian series, but still, we played some good cricket.” Gill said.

Bumrah’s Absence Made Huge Difference In Sydney Test

When the entire Indian lineup struggled against the Australian attack, Jasprit Bumrah stood as a lone warrior and showcased exceptional consistency. He finished the series as the highest wicket-taker. However, the tide turned when a back spasm ruled him out of the final innings, and India suffered a heartbreaking defeat in Sydney. Shubman Gill believes that the outcome could have been very different if Bumrah had been there on the field.

“We were unfortunate not to have (Jasprit) Bumrah on the last day, and we would have won the match, and the series would have been a draw, and this talk wouldn't have happened.” Gill said.

“One match and one day doesn't define us. We won there twice before, and earlier, we won a World Cup and then reached the final of a World Cup, so we should keep all those things in mind.” he added.
