The iconic Ashes have returned to the cricket arena, and Australia couldn’t have asked for a better start as they surge ahead 2-0 in the series. Ahead of stepping into the third Test, they received a massive boost as captain Pat Cummins returned to the squad.
Sustaining a major injury, he missed the previous two Tests and raced against the time for a mighty comeback. Before stepping into the Adelaide Test, Cummins revealed his exceptional recovery journey.
Pat flips the script with a fierce comeback strategy
Pat Cummins has entertained fans with his fiery personality on the field, and he channeled his inner fire in the recovery journey. After sustaining a serious back injury during the Test series against the West Indies, Cummins was out of the cricket action for months and was likely to miss the entire Ashes.
Lion-hearted courage and sheer determination brought him back in the squad of the third Test. Reflecting on this miraculous recovery journey, Cummins shared the impact of an ‘aggressive’ plan for a mighty comeback.
“We know the pathway that you need to do to come back from a stress injury like that. I had 16 weeks completely off bowling, make sure the bone heals really well, looking good, and then from there it's ramping up. You normally try to ramp up - the medical staff will probably tell me I've got this completely wrong - maybe over three or four months,” he said.
“That would obviously have meant that I missed the Ashes, so we set a pretty aggressive plan to get up in six or seven weeks. I haven't had any hiccups, I'm feeling great, feeling probably better than I would have thought. The back's healed well, so here we are,” he added.
Captain Cummins is ready to roar again
Since the Ashes commenced last month, captain Pat Cummins was a big miss from the Aussie squad as Steve Smith donned the captain’s hat. Due to a major back injury, he missed the first two Tests, all set to lead the side in the third match.
But things could have been different if he hadn’t decided to race against time for a thrilling comeback in whites. Speaking ahead of the match, he confirmed he is ready to take the field, fully recovered and raring to go.
“I'm good to go. I've been bowling [at] 100% for a while. If I'd played in Brisbane, I would probably have been on limited-overs. But this week, it's just 'go and play' like any other Test match,” he said.
With a 2-0 lead, the mighty Australia will take the field in Adelaide against the arch-rivals in the third Test on December 17. The return of Cummins injects a huge boost, as Australia looks to extend its winning momentum and dominate the third Test.
