England and India are up against each other in the opening Test of the five-match series at the Headingley in Leeds. The series is expected to be tough for the young Indian team after the retirement of their superstars.

However, despite losing a crucial toss, the Shubman Gill-led unit started well, with openers building a solid stand of 91 runs. KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal displayed great technique, mixing caution with aggression.

The commentators also praised Indian openers' resilience and went a bit far on one occasion. In one of the overs, when India's score had 77 on the board, Sanjay Manjrekar praised the technique of leaving the ball outside off. However, while stating that point, Manjrekar also mentioned that there was one former batter who would have gone after deliveries outside off and would have got himself out.

“We know of a former batter who would have gone after that delivery and gotten himself into trouble.” 

It was clearly a reference to Virat Kohli, who retired from Test cricket before the England series. In the previous series against Australia, Virat Kohli could not control his temptation to go after the deliveries outside off, and it led to his downfall. 

The same problem troubled him in the past, too, and many believe that Virat Kohli retired from the format, fearing more such dismissals in England. Thus, Sanjay Manjrekar's comments in this context are not likely to be taken kindly by Virat Kohli's fans, and the commentator might find himself in a bit of trouble again.

Previously, Sanjay Manjrekar has faced the heat for his comments on Ravindra Jadeja and Sachin Tendulkar. He also apologised to Jadeja after the all-rounder proved his criticism wrong, and it would be interesting to see how he tackles the online hate after his latest remark.
