IND vs WI 1st Test preview [Source: @AhmedGT_, @CaribCricket/x.com]
After their recent Asia Cup 2025 triumph in the UAE, India are set to begin their home season with a two-match Test series against the West Indies. The first Test will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from Thursday, October 2, starting at 9:30 AM IST.
India
India’s last Test assignment was the memorable 2-2 draw against England in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. This will be their first home red-ball series since the 3-0 whitewash by New Zealand last November. Shubman Gill will lead India at home for the first time, and with his team in strong form, the hosts enter the series as clear favourites.
West Indies
On the other hand, West Indies were whitewashed 3-0 by Australia in their most recent Test series. Missing pace spearheads Shamar Joseph and Alzarri Joseph, the Caribbean side will rely heavily on senior men like Roston Chase and Shai Hope. Youngsters such as Alick Athanaze, Brandon King and Jayden Seales will need to step up if they are to challenge India.
IND vs WI head to head overview
India and the West Indies have faced each other in 100 Test matches, with the Caribbean side holding a slight edge historically. West Indies have won 30 Tests while India have emerged victorious on 23 occasions. The two teams have also played out 47 draws.
Narendra Modi Stadium pitch report
The Narendra Modi Stadium pitch in Ahmedabad is usually hard and flat, and it offers good bounce and carry early on. But with reports stating that red soil will be used, fast bowlers will likely get help from the surface. As the game progresses, the surface tends to favour batting while spinners come into play from Day 3 onwards. Out of 15 Tests played here, four have been won by sides batting first, four by sides batting second, and seven have ended in draws. Winning the toss, teams are likely to bat first.
