'We Didn't Want To Take Unnecessary Risk...': Mitchell Marsh Clears The Starc Scenario

Australia defeated Oman by 39 runs in Barbados in match 10 of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Captain Mithcell Marsh reflected on how the game went for them and credited the match-winning performances from David Warner, and Marcus Stoinis and gave an update on Mitchell Starc's fitness.

Australia while batting first put up 164/5 on the board thanks to the partnership of Warner and Stoinis. With an equally crucial effort with the ball, the all-rounder, the Aussies restricted Oman to 125/9. Here's what Marsh had to say.

On having a good start to the campaign and Warner's batting,

"Pretty close game. If you look at the nature of the game, it's good to begin the tournament with a win. It's not a 200 type of tournament, so everyone has to play differently like the old T20 games with someone batting through like Davey tonight," said Marsh.

About Stoinis' match-winning effort and Starc's injury,

"It was pretty special from him [Stoinis]. He showed his experience initially and got going towards the back end. [On Starc] We didn't want to take unnecessary risk early in the tournament, he said he's fine, it's just a cramp. When Starcy says he wants to go off, you let him go off."

Up next, Australia will take on arch-rivals England at Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 8 in match 16.
