After a nearly day-long saga, Tamim Iqbal has revealed what actually transpired between him and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials prior to the BCB's selection of the 2023 ODI World Cup squad.

The 34-year-old, who has 8357 runs in 243 ODIs at an average of 36.65, came out of retirement in order to participate in the showpiece event but failed to make the cut due to injury concerns.

Tamim recently met with BCB officials to discuss his World Cup availability. Due to his concerns about his fitness, one of the top BCB officials there suggested that he could demote himself in Bangladesh's opening World Cup match against Afghanistan, or sit out.

Tamim expressed his "surprise and anger" at the statement, given that he has opened every one of the 240 ODIs in which he has entered the middle thus far.

From there on, the trouble began, and he failed to get a place in the Tigers’ squad for the World Cup, scheduled to get underway on October 5.

Considering his spectacular numbers, Tamim is easily the greatest ODI batsman for Bangladesh. Hence, if his career ends in this way, it will be a dreadful not only for him, but also for spectators.
