Quinton de Kock smeared 174 runs against Bangladesh to notch up his third century of the 2023 World Cup, and the 20th of his expansive ODI career. The dashing opener blasted 15 boundaries and seven towering sixes all across Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, and demonstrated unreal acceleration towards the backend of his innings.

Quinton’s thunderous ton led South Africa to a colossal 382-5, which turned out to be 149 runs enough of Bangladesh’s best run-chase efforts in the evening.

Fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’, the 30-year-old stated that he felt nervous prior to the match and went on to praise teammate Heinrich Klaasen for his 90-run blitz in the death overs.

Quinton de Kock reveals mindset before 150th ODI

Quinton de Kock took field for South Africa in their match against Bangladesh to conclude their World Cup 2023 segment at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. Notably, the contest also marked the 150th ODI of his glittering 50-overs internationals career, and took him a step closer to his imminent post-World Cup 2023 retirement.

When asked to reveal his mindset prior to the match, Quinton de Kock admitted that he felt a sense of nervousness in the morning. At the post-match presentation, he said:

“I was a little bit nervous this morning. I'm not like one of those guys who don't get nervous at all. But really happy to score after being nervous earlier.”

The cricketer was also asked to describe his match-winning effort for South Africa in the context of the tournament. He added:

“Yeah. I think to be honest, I'm too tired than satisfied. It was a great hit out with the guys and happy to get two points.”

Quinton de Kock further praised in-form batsman Heinrich Klaasen for his consistent lower-order blitzkriegs for South Africa. The duo added 142 runs from just 87 balls for the fourth wicket, and Klaasen himself slapped a 49-ball 90 in the innings.

“Klaasen is really special. Don't know what he is doing. But he has been great for us in the last 12 months and I'm really happy for him.”

Quinton de Kock and the rest of his South African teammates will now face Pakistan for their subsequent World Cup 2023 challenge on October 27. The much-awaited contest will be played out on a spin-friendly M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
