In a recent podcast, RCB fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has opened up about his disciplined approach to diet and nutrition. He stated his experience on how proper diet changes have helped him to maintain fitness and prolong his career.

The veteran seamer, who recently became the first Indian fast bowler to play 300 T20 matches, shared his food preferences and nutrition journey.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar Reveals His Diet Plan

Speaking on Ranveer Allahabadia’s podcast, Bhuvneshwar revealed how gut health issues forced him to give up long-time habits like bed coffee. He added that now occasionally he drinks milk coffee, though it makes him feel bloated.

The 35-year-old pacer has been following a strict dietitian-approved meal plan for over three years, including going gluten-free, dairy-free, and avoiding dals due to bloating concerns.

“My dietitian gave me a diet plan in which I had to avoid many things. I had to go gluten-free. I had to avoid dairy. I was also told not to eat dal because it could have been the reason for the bloating. I had stopped all these things for a year. Now, I consume a few restricted items sometimes but only outside home,” Kumar, told Ranveer Allahabadia on his podcast.

Though a lifelong vegetarian, Bhuvneshwar Kumar briefly switched to a non-vegetarian diet to meet protein requirements. However, he soon realized it was not for him.

“I was a vegetarian before, but then I started non-vegeting for protein. I never enjoyed it. So, I left it,” said Kumar, adding that the result was visible when after following a proper vegetarian diet for a year, “the DEXA muscle mass scan improved”.

He also added that he has stopped eating eggs over the past year and has continued to prioritise clean, home-cooked meals.

“I had home-cooked food. Eggs were there, but I have left eggs too for the past one year,” said Kumar, who wants to prolong his career with the same intensity and avoid injuries. “Long-term diet plays a role,” said Kumar.
