The ongoing edition of IPL has reached an interesting mode as tables are turning with each match. At present, RCB are top of the table with 14 points, while Delhi Capitals, who started the tournament on a high, have slipped midway through the season. Virat Kohli is on fire as he is among the top run-getters in IPL history.
Talking about Kohli, the India star batter needs no introduction. For the unversed, it is worth noting that Delhi Capitals let go off the opportunity to sign Kohli in 2008 when he picked seamer Pradeep Sangwan over Virat ahead of the inaugural edition of the tournament. Notably, Virat and other under 19 players were not a part of the auction, but they were in a draft, where franchises were asked to pick players.
Virender Sehwag Breaks Silence
DC had the option to pick from Virat and Sangwan and they went ahead with the latter. In hindsight, the decision went on to become one of the biggest blunders in the tournament's history. In the latest events, Virender Sehwag, who was then Delhi Capitals captain has revealed why the Capitals ignored Kohli in the auction.
"This did not happen on the auction table. I was there. We also had Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan, Dilshan, AB de Villiers. There were so many openers and top-order batters. We had a lot of batters, but we did not have bowlers. So our thinking was to get an extra bowler. He was a left-armer. We thought he would do good and he did too. Yo, Mahesh and Pradeep Sangwan were two young bowlers, who did well for us in the first three seasons," Sehwag added.
Nonetheless, Sehwag was full of praise for Sangwan and remarked that the DC seamer had contributed a lot to the side.
