"Virat should have left ODIs and...": Ex-cricketer makes huge claim amid India's woeful Test form

Former cricketer Shreevats Goswami has made a furious critique of the current Indian Test side while questioning their winning mentality. Goswami was articulate about the Virat Kohli era, which had the fiesty nature of winning.

Now under Gautam Gambhir's management and led by Shubman Gill, the Indian team is lacking the firepower. After the first defeat at Eden Gardens, another loss looms at Guwahati with India's collapse seemingly imminent.

Goswami hails Virat Kohli era

After South Africa's tail-end posted a massive total in their first innings, Shreevats Goswami, taking to his official X handle, took a dig at the current Indian Test team which is currently led by Rishabh Pant.

Goswami was vocal about the passion and love of Virat Kohli that ignited the spirit of the game and underlined what was the most valuable for Kohli. The unbroken and unbeaten mentality which helped India pivot from any crisis.

“Ideally, Virat should have left playing ODIs & continued playing Test cricket until he had nothing to give. Test cricket misses him. Not just as a player but just the energy he brought, the love & passion playing for India where he made the team believe that they can win in any condition. The winning mentality & that fire which was there under Virat Kohli feels missing in this team,” Goswami wrote on social media.

For the unaware, Rishabh Pant is leading in the absence of Shubman Gill who was ruled out because of a neck injury.

India is suffering in Guwahati

Goswami's comments stand true as currently India is suffering at Guwahati. After South Africa posted 489 in their first innings, India was bundled for just 201 runs with the middle order collapsing like a house of cards.

Only decent contributions from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Washington Sundar helped India to get past less than half of the total as South Africa decided to bat again without giving a follow-on to India.

With only one day left in the game, defeat looms over India as South Africa looks to bag the series 2-0 on Indian soil.
