Here, we take a look at the complete highlights of the third T20I between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, as it unfolded at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla on Sunday, January 11.
Dasun Shanaka’s late fireworks powers Sri Lanka to 160 in 12 overs
Asked to bat first, Sri Lanka came all guns blazing, with an intent to hit every ball out of the park. Losing both openers early did not slow them down as the batters kept the runs flowing and piled up a strong 160 run total in just 12 overs in the rain-hit game.
Kusal Mendis was the major contributor from the top with a brisk 30 off 16 balls and ensured the momentum never dipped. Captain Dasun Shanaka then took over at the end, blasting a stunning 34 off nine balls, including five massive sixes, to finish in style.
With the ball, Mohammad Nawaz stood out for his control, giving away only eight runs in his single over. Mohammad Wasim Jr. had a tough day but still picked up three wickets, finishing as the highest wicket-taker despite conceding 54 runs.
Wanindu Hasaranga’s 4-fer breaks Pakistan’s chase
Pakistan’s chase of 161 in 12 overs began poorly as both openers fell cheaply, failing to provide momentum. Captain Salman Agha led the fightback, powering Pakistan past 50 with a blazing 45 off just 12 balls.
Wanindu Hasaranga then turned the game, striking twice to stall the scoring rate. With 56 needed off four overs, Mohammad Nawaz and Khawaja Nafay attempted a late surge, but Hasaranga’s return fetched two more crucial wickets.
Matheesha Pathirana removed Mohammad Nawaz to further derail Pakistan’s chase, leaving too much for the lower order. After losing the first T20I and the second being washed out, Sri Lanka bounced back to draw the series, with Hasaranga’s four-wicket haul proving decisive.
