Australia's former cricketer Aaron Finch has shared his views on the upcoming Australia vs India series starting from October 19. While reflecting on the series outcome, Finch also shared his views on Shubman Gill as the new Indian captain.

While speaking of the expectations from Gill and how he will receive guidance from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Finch also shared the enthusiasm to see a riveting contest.

Finch terms hosts as favourites

Speaking to ICC, Aaron Finch, who himself was a notorious player for India to handle, predicted the series outcome between the Baggy Greens and Men in Blue while mentioning the 'Virat Kohli factor'.

"It will be a great series. It always is against India and I think having Virat back in there brings out the best in him against Australia. It's always a great battle when you look at it on paper as it's very evenly matched, but I'd say Australia (win the series) 2-1. Not confidently though, as India are a great side and it will just be a great series to watch," Finch told ICC Digital from Colombo.

Finch backs Shubman Gill's potential under guidance

Finch then added his opinion on how he wants to see Shubman Gill fly high with his maiden ODI captaincy stint as he replaces Rohit Sharma. Finch mentioned that the seniors' guidance will help him a lot in the series.

"But I think just having those guys (Rohit and Kohli) there will be a real calmness for him as well, because it's the ability to bounce ideas, both on and off the field on how you want the team to function going forward, because they've been such a huge part of the team for a long period of time," Finch concluded.

Finch further noted how Shubman has been a good leader in T20 cricket and in Test cricket as well. Hence, Gill's ODI debut as captain should be similarly triumphant. Nevertheless, the Indian ODI squad looks ready to face the Australian heat as Suryakumar Yadav & Co. will embark on the T20I tour after the Asia Cup 2025 victory.
