India's young batting sensation, Shubman Gill, has been handed a new responsibility as the vice-captain of the national team. As India prepares for the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai, Gill reflected on what he had learned from captains past and present in an exclusive chat on Inside Out - Champions Trophy Special. Speaking about the different leadership styles he has observed, he expressed himself and what he learned from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's captaincy.
“Everyone has different qualities. I think Virat Bhai is more aggressive and instinctive; whatever he feels, he does it straight away. Rohit Bhai, on the other hand, thinks a lot more before changing any plan. He gives a little more time to the current plan before moving on to the next one."
Gill also highlighted Hardik Pandya’s fearless approach, and stated that Hardik Pandya has a lot of confidence and and encourages everyone to dominate the other team at any condition.
Hardik Bhai has a lot of confidence, is flamboyant, and tries to dominate when he's on the field. He constantly encourages everyone to dominate and not let the other team have a chance. I’ve learned a lot from all three," Gill continued.
Gill Shines In First ODI Against England
The young vice-captain backed his words with action and delivered a match-winning performance. The star player made 87 runs off 96 balls in the first ODI against England in Nagpur. Chasing 249, India had a rocky start and lost early wickets of Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal. But Gill anchored the innings with a composed knock, and guided India to a four-wicket victory.
With momentum and confidence on his side, Gill will next be seen in action in the second ODI on Sunday. The match will be played at Barabati Stadium Cuttack.
