Indian fast bowlers received high praise from former Pakistan pacer, Shoaib Akhtar following their dominant performance against South Africa in the World Cup 2023 clash at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. India emerged victorious with a staggering 243-run victory over South Africa on Sunday, November 5.

Akhtar, renowned for his blistering pace during his playing days, acknowledged the brilliance of the Indian fast bowlers, placing them on par with the country's celebrated batting lineup.

Jasprit Bumrah, despite not taking any wickets, played a crucial role by maintaining an impressive economy rate of 2.80 across five overs. Mohammed Siraj contributed significantly by dismissing Quinton de Kock, while Mohammed Shami's excellent form in the tournament continued as he claimed the wickets of Rassie van der Dussen and Aiden Markram.

Akhtar, sharing his insights on his YouTube channel, credited the Indian bowlers for their exceptional performances. He urged fans and experts to start appreciating the Indian pace attack just as they do the batsmen. He highlighted the bowlers' significant impact in the last few matches of the tournament.

“Credit goes to the bowlers as they are performing brilliantly. It’s high time that you start regarding Indian pace bowlers as you do it for the batters basically. It’s time to celebrate fast bowling in Indian cricket because they have done a wonderful job in the last three to four matches and they are looking apart,” said Akhtar.

Expressing his disappointment with the South African team's approach, Akhtar critiqued their lack of aggression and inability to challenge the Indian bowlers. He specifically pointed out South African captain Temba Bavuma's conservative strategy, suggesting that a more proactive approach was needed.

“I am disappointed with South Africa that they did not take charge and didn’t even try. They got bogged down in front of India. Bavuma, their skipper, did not even try to attack the pacers. He should have done something different. It was a walk in the park for India,” added the Pakistan veteran.

Coming to the game, South Africa's batting line-up crumbled while chasing a formidable target of 327, getting all out for just 83 runs in 27.1 overs. Despite a few batsmen reaching double figures, they failed to make a substantial impact. Ravindra Jadeja was the pick of the bowlers, claiming five wickets in the match.
