The chase master Virat Kohli couldn’t have asked for the perfect gift for his 35th birthday as he smashed his way to the 49th ODI ton to help India set up a crushing victory against the Proteas on Sunday. Following his impressive century of 101* (121), he also equaled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of the most number of ODI hundreds (49).

Following the conclusion of the rather one-sided fixture, there were scenes of jubilation all around the stadium. While the match was long over, the majority of the crowd decided to stay back to catch a glimpse of Kohli. He was seen celebrating his birthday with his team and also spent some time interacting with the ground staff.

In order to celebrate his historic milestone, the 35-year-old gathered with the ground staff for a brief photo session. In return, the ground authorities who featured in the picture along with him later thanked him for his kind gesture.

Kohli was in exceptional form with the bat and navigated through tricky batting conditions following the departure of Shubman Gill. While most of the batters from either side struggled to get their feet moving against the turning ball, Kohli displayed a great sense of maturity by taking minimal risks against the spinners. Once the pacers were brought on, Kohli unleashed his fury and accelerated the scoring rate which helped India post a fight total of 326-5.

Kohli, notably, achieved the distinction of being the runner-up in terms of run-scoring in the ongoing World Cup tournament. With a tally of 543 runs from eight innings, whilst maintaining an impressive average of 108.60, Kohli is only behind Quinton De Kock who currently holds 550 runs under his belt.
