Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar joined a chorus of admirers in congratulating Virat Kohli for equalling a significant record in One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

Tendulkar cheers Kohli's 49th ODI century

Kohli's latest century, scored against South Africa at Kolkata's Eden Gardens, marked his 49th in ODIs, tying him with Tendulkar's record. His knock of 101 off 121 balls was filled with 10 fours which helped India post a massive 326/5 in their 50 overs on a difficult wicket.

Tendulkar, in a widely shared tweet, lauded Kohli's achievement with both admiration and a light-hearted challenge. This tweet has since gone viral, showcasing the high regard and camaraderie between these two cricketing greats.

"Well played Virat. It took me 365 days to go from 49 to 50 earlier this year. I hope you go from 49 to 50 and break my record in the next few days. Congratulations!!" Tendulkar wrote.

Kohli's journey to this milestone has been marked by consistent performance, including a memorable unbeaten 103 against Bangladesh in Pune, which secured India a seven-wicket victory. Although he narrowly missed centuries against New Zealand and Sri Lanka, Kohli's latest ton at Eden Gardens underlined his status as one of the game's all-time greats.

With this achievement, the top ranks of ODI century-makers are dominated by Indians, featuring Tendulkar, Kohli, and Rohit Sharma.

Kohli's continued excellence in the 50-over format not only cements his legacy but also keeps fans and fellow cricketers alike eager to see if he can surpass Tendulkar's record soon. With the knockouts coming soon, there couldn’t be a better moment for Kohli to bring his 50th ODI ton.
