Beating India in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has been unthinkable, given their form and dominance. Having won all their nine group matches, the Men in Blue enter the knockouts as the title contenders.

However, New Zealand, who will go up against India in the semifinals at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai today, have found support in former pacer Simon Doull.

Speaking to Cricbuzz, Doull explained that New Zealand's only chance at beating India is if they win the toss and bat first or the hosts go in as firm favourites.

The cricketer-turned-commentator explained how assistance in the second innings under lights could help Black Cap bowlers, known for their swing bowling.

Here's what Doull said

"It is crucial from New Zealand's point of view that they bat first. So winning the toss is going to be quite crucial for either side. We have seen that batting first in Mumbai is the best way to go. New Zealand will feel that a target around 300-mark is something that they can defend if they bowl well and put India under some pressure."

"No Indian fan wants to remember what happened in the last 12 years in knockout matches. But look, India go in as heavy favourites in the semi-final, they go in as the best team in the tournament. New Zealand, they just find a way, they find a way to fightback to play as a team. They will have to do that."

Interestingly, the numbers favour New Zealand, who have never lost a match, maintaining a spotless record in ICC knockouts against India.
