Former Indian speedster S Sreesanth tore into the Pakistan cricket team for their crashing exit from the 2023 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka. The ‘Men in Green’, under Babar Azam’s leadership, looked all settled to make it to the tournament final before they slumped under pressure against Sri Lanka in a tense final-over thriller in Colombo.

Pakistan, having charted 252 from 42 overs upfront, failed to restrict Sri Lanka in the last over of their virtual semi-final showdown.

Sreesanth brands Pakistan ‘chokers’ of big games

Pakistan made it to the final of the T20 Asia Cup in the UAE last year, as well as the final of the subsequent T20 World Cup in Australia. However, on both occasions, Babar Azam’s troops were overwhelmed on the big stage by Sri Lanka and England, respectively.

In regards to Pakistan’s recent track record in virtual knockout matches or big tournament games, former Indian pacer S Sreesanth labelled them “chokers,” who are not even good enough to make it to the final of any competition. While speaking with Sportskeeda, he said:

“It won't happen (anytime soon). Pakistan are not good enough to reach the finals. They are like South Africa. They choke in finals.”

Pakistan’s last-ball defeat to Sri Lanka in their must-win Asia Cup 2023 Super Four drew scores of criticisms from all corners. Moreover, captain Babar Azam also reportedly got into an argument with his senior pacer Shaheen Afridi in the dressing room after their exit from the tournament.

With mere weeks left for the 2023 World Cup in India, several insider reports are also indicating that the Pakistan team might well undergo some radical changes in their line-up in time for the quadrennial event.
