On Wednesday, Pakistan had a magnificent start to the Super 4 stage in the Asia Cup, swatting aside Bangladesh by seven wickets in Lahore. Bowling first, Pakistan bowled out Bangladesh for a paltry 193 and chased it down successfully, courtesy of fighting half-centuries from Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan.

On the other hand, experienced all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan emerged as one of the rare shining lights for Bangladesh, amassing 53 runs off 57 deliveries. In the post-match presser, the southpaw rued poor batting for the visitors' heartbreaking defeat, lauding Pakistan for their stunning bowling performance.

The veteran cricketer mainly hailed Pakistan's rampant pace unit, comprising Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf, calling it a significant reason behind their recent ODI exploits.

'They are the No. 1 team and these are the reasons'- Shakib on Pakistan

"They are the No. 1 team and these are the reasons. They have three world-class bowlers who are making things easier for them. We have been doing well in the bowling department, but batting is a bit hot and cold. We need to be more consistent," said Shakib.

Shakib is astute in his assessment, as the Pakistani pacers have enjoyed stellar success, even on flat decks at home. While Shaheen and Naseem have been excellent with the new ball, Rauf has troubled the opponents with searing pace.

Placed at the top in the Super 4 standings, Pakistan will take on arch-rivals India in their next Super 4 fixture in Colombo. Meanwhile, Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka in the eighth game of the tournament a day after tomorrow.
