Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan accepted that tension prevailed within the camp before the side's Asia Cup 2023 campaign-opener versus Sri Lanka.

After opting to bat first, Bangladesh could not make much of the toss-advantage as the team gathered only 164 runs before getting bowled out.

As per Shakib, Bangladesh did not bat well, however, 60 more runs could have pushed them towards a competitive total.

"It wasn't a 300 wicket. 220-230 would've given us more chance. Didn't bat well as a unit. Have to regroup, have another important game in a couple of days. Needed couple more wickets when they were 3 down for 30. We picked up wickets but didn't have enough on the board," said Shakib in the post-match presentation.

The 36-year-old did not mince his words and stated that the side was nervous going into the fixture.

"There were a lot of nerves when we started the game. Lot of guys playing Asia Cup for first time. They've been playing good cricket that's why they're in dressing room."

Placed in Group B, Bangladesh, having faced Sri Lanka, will now feature in a must-win affair against Afghanistan on September 3 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
