Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed was spitting fire for the initial part of his opening spell in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 fixture against Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh could do very little with the bat, managing a score of only 164 on the scoreboard before getting bowled out. However, their new-ball bowlers Taskin and Shoriful Islam provided them the opening they needed.

While at first Taskin did away Sri Lanka opener Dimuth Karunaratne with a peach that rattled the stumps as the batter failed to get bat to ball, Shoriful dismissed Pathum Nissanka via an outgoing delivery as the latter poked at it and gave an easy catch the wicket-keeper.

The two dismissals left Bangladesh stranded at 15/2 in their reply of the 165-run target.

Although Bangladesh claimed another wicket in the form of Kusal Mendis, a 78-run fourth-wicket partnership between Sadeera Samarawickrama and Charith Asalanka led them to the brink of an easy win.

Sri Lanka currently require 37 runs with five wickets in hand. Sadeera guided their way in the chase with a half-century.
