Mumbai Indians (MI) ended their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign with another defeat, their 10th of the season, making it their joint worst season alongside 2022 as they finish with just 8 points.
After the 18-run loss against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their final game of the season, MI moves into transition as the squads will be shuffled in the upcoming mega auctions.
After putting LSG to bat first, MI couldn't put resistance on the carnage from Nicholas Pooran as he scored 75(29) with 8 sixes and 5 fours. KL Rahul also scored 55(41), helping them to put up 214/6.
Nobody except Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir stood up to the task as they scored 68(38) and 62(28) respectively. Dhir carried the bat but they eventually ended short.
Hardik reflects on MI's season
In the post-match interview, Hardik Pandya, yet again admitted to having another poor performance where they didn't step up.
"Quite difficult [the season]. We did not play good quality cricket which cost us."
On keeping the mood up in the dressing room during a tough season,
"It's a professional world. Sometimes there will be good days, and sometimes there will be bad days but as professionals, we always have to come up and put our best foot forward so keeping the mood up wasn't an issue. We lacked in quality and the results show that."
About tonight's match, Pandya couldn't exactly put a finger on what went wrong, saying the whole season has gone this way.
"Too early to point on what went wrong, the whole season as gone wrong. We can pass on this game and look forward for the next season now."
Unfortunately for Hardik, the problem will persist for Hardik in the next season, as the MI leader will miss next season's opening contest, due to BCCI slapping him with a one-match ban for slow over-rate.
