'The 5 Sixes Changed My Life...,' Rinku Singh Shares Insights On His Cricket Journey

On the back of his domestic exploits and two brilliant IPL seasons, Rinku Singh broke into the Indian team, debuting in the ongoing three-match T20I series against Ireland.

While Rinku did not get a bat in his maiden international appearance, he made up for the lost opportunity in the following match, helping India post 185 runs with his 21-ball 38.

Batting at number three, Rinku for the better part of his innings played an anchor's role. The southpaw showed his hitting prowess in the slog overs, smashing 23 runs in six deliveries after being at 15 off 15 at one stage. He was adjudged Player of the Match for his performance.

In an interview after the game, Rinku Singh spoke about the famous IPL 2023 moment when he hammered Gujarat Titans' Yash Dayal for five sixes in one over as Kolkata Knight Riders won an almost impossible match. He believes that event has changed his life.

"Feeling very good. I was very excited to bat in the first match but did not get a chance. I wanted to play till the end just like I have done in the IPL. The idea was to keep myself calm and composed and hit in the final 2-3 overs," Rinku said as quoted in a video uploaded on the Board of Control for Cricket in India website.


"The 5 sixes changed my life. The fans know me from that only and I love it when they cheer Rinku Rinku from the stands," he added.

After playing the final T20I of the series against Ireland on Wednesday, Rinku will next be seen in the India colours in the Asian Games 2023.
