Kuldeep Yadav reminisced about the heartbreaking loss in the final of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Australia and revealed how he coped with the setback.

The lead wrist-spinner, who failed to build inroads during the Aussie run-chase with a wet ball under heavy dew in Ahmedabad, said the "first week or ten days" were the hardest for him to deal with as he kept self-questioning in frustration.

As India missed a golden opportunity to reclaim world cricket's ultimate crown, the nation mourned the defeat while the players suffered the worst of their fortunes, being left shocked and in utter disbelief with what had transpired on a fatal day at the Motera Stadium.

Kuldeep Opens Up On World Cup Setback

Kuldeep was one of those and recalls it as among the most "difficult" little phases of his career. Thankfully, the player was given rest from the T20Is at home, which he immediately followed to recharge himself physically and mentally from the painstaking loss.

"First week or ten days after the final was the most difficult. It was not easy to get that thought away from my mind. I keep thinking about what I could have done different," Kuldeep told reporters from Johannesburg after taking a memorable five-fer in India's win in the third T20I on Thursday (December 14).

"Cricket is very unpredictable, most of the time you don’t get the desired result. You learn and move forward."

Kuldeep was one of the heroes of India's mighty World Cup juggernaut, with 15 scalps from 11 innings at an average of 28.26, and an economy rate of 4.45.

After being rested for the five-match T20I series versus the Australians, the youngster made a resounding comeback to the field via the Proteas series and ended the third match in Jo'burg with spectacular figures of 5 for 17 in India's massive 106-run win.
