Shreyas Iyer has been a valuable asset for the Indian team in recent times, thanks to his outstanding performances in white-ball cricket. He gained headlines after being snubbed from the Asia Cup 2025 squad, despite performing brilliantly in the IPL 2025.

He even led the Punjab Kings to the finals. Iyer has also requested that the BCCI not consider him for the Test matches, as his body cannot withstand the physical demands of playing five-day matches. Coming to the batter's support, former cricketer Mohammad Kaif has praised him on social media and also offered some advice.

Mohammad Kaif lauds Shreyas Iyer in new post

The right-hand batter has played several match-winning knocks for the Indian team in the OCI World Cup 2023 and the Champions Trophy 2025. Kaif uploaded a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) to appreciate the efforts made by Shreyas Iyer throughout these years.

"Great to catch up with Shreyas Iyer. What a player. Hundred on Test debut, 2023 ODI World Cup hero, only captain to lead 3 IPL teams to final. T20 national call up too will come, Hang in there, a great future awaits you Shreyas," wrote Kaif on X.

BCCI appoints Shreyas Iyer as vice-captain for Australia tour

In a significant development, the Indian selectors have appointed Shreyas Iyer as the vice-captain of the Indian team in the ODIs for the upcoming Australia tour. With Shubman Gill as the captain, Iyer will be his deputy. This is a massive responsibility for the player, but since he has been the captain of three IPL teams, he has the experience of handling pressure.

Moreover, this will be Gill's first series as captain of the ODI team. Hence, it would be interesting to see how he performs and leads the team throughout the series. The ODI series between India and Australia is scheduled to start on October 19. Only three matches will be played, followed by a 5-match T20I series.
