In a stunning turn of events at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell rewrote the history books with an unbelievable innings, propelling his team into the ICC World Cup 2023 semi-finals.

Akram marvels at Maxwell's game-changing knock

On a tension-filled Tuesday, Maxwell's bat spoke volumes against Afghanistan, notching out an epic 201* off just 128 balls, a performance that can only be described as a cricketing miracle.

The Australian team, languishing at an abysmal 91/7 in the 19th over, found a saviour in Maxwell. Battling cramps and physical agony, he defied the odds, producing an innings that was less about running between the wickets and more about sheer power and precision. His monumental effort, which included 21 fours and 10 sixes, wasn't just a display of his explosive batting but also proof of his incredible spirit.

Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram was left in awe by Maxwell's innings. Speaking on A Sports, Akram couldn't help but marvel at the Australian's feat, acknowledging it as a performance that goes beyond the ordinary stories of cricket. Akram's admiration highlighted not just the skill but the heart required to play through pain, a quality that Maxwell demonstrated in abundance.

"One man show, stuff of the legends. There is a saying, one guy can't win you a game and obviously what an absolute lie. You have to have heart, to keep on playing despite having cramps. They are very very painful and they do not get away," said Akram.

Furthermore, the captain's role, as noted by Akram, was crucial in the game. According to him, with great awareness, Cummins ensured Maxwell had the strike, a move that allowed the all-rounder to unleash his full potential. The Pakistan veteran reckoned that Maxwell’s knock wasn't just a display of cricketing brilliance; it was a statement to the world, consolidating his status as the premier one-day player in contemporary cricket.

"You have to credit the captain as well. When you talk about situation awareness, that what exactly what he did. 12 runs off 68 balls, he was giving the strike to his main player and he (Maxwell) showed the world, that he is the best one day player right now in world cricket,” added the legendary pacer.

In a career spanning two decades as a player and another two in the cricketing sphere, Akram confessed to never witnessing anything quite like Maxwell's innings - a sentiment likely echoed by fans and experts worldwide.

“This is unbelievable, I have never heard of this kind of knock before. I have played cricket for 20 years, worked in cricket for another 20 years and I have never seen anything like this before,” concluded Akram.
