Maxwell Recalls Kohli's MCG Epic After Special Wankhede Knock

Glenn Maxwell shared a special Instagram story post on Tuesday (November 7), featuring the reference to fellow Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) player Virat Kohli's epic knock at MCG against Pakistan at last year's men's T20 World Cup in Australia. 

Even as he continues to soak in praise after etching himself in the record books for a breathtaking and legendary 201 not out off 128 deliveries against Afghanistan at the ICC World Cup 2023 in Mumbai, Maxwell was more than happy to upheld modern-day legend Kohli's reference made by the RCB franchise. 

He re-shared the post made by the popular franchise after it found similarities in Kohli's spectacular 82 not out with Maxwell's counterattack for the ages at the iconic Wankhede Stadium.

With both the match-winning knocks arriving in the sternest of adversity with their respective teams pushed to the brink of defeat, RCB couldn't help but find that Maxwell's epic double evoked Kohli's own magnum opus in recent years.

In a story post shared on his formal handle, Maxwell upheld the RCB franchise's reference to a great knock by his longstanding friend and Indian Premier League (IPL) teammate. 

The extravagant Australian match-winner showed his selflessness with the Kohli reference even as the day belonged solely to him for a memorable knock, one hailed by many as the greatest ODI innings seen. 


Notably, earlier Kohli had paid a fitting tribute to Maxwell's timeless classic at Wankhede with a personal Instagram post, insisting only the Aussie limited-overs giant could've managed to revert what seemed an imminent defeat with his maiden double hundred in One-Day Internationals. 

Maxwell shattered multiple records on the night for taking Australia home singlehandedly from a precious 91/7, including becoming the first Aussie batter to produce a One-Day double ton. It was not just Australia's maiden double century in World Cup history but also the first overall in an ODI run-chase ever.
