[Watch] When Glenn Maxwell Became Sachin Tendulkar's Shadow To Involve His Batting

As Glenn Maxwell continues to hog the limelight for his blistering timeless assault against Afghanistan at the ICC World Cup 2023 on Tuesday (November 7) night in Mumbai, a clip of him trying to replicate the mastery of legendary Sachin Tendulkar is going viral on social media.

Maxwell, who shattered the record books with his scintillating 201 not out at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in a stiff run-chase of 292, is seen copying the inimitable style of the 'Master Blaster' during an old clip from the net session for their former IPL franchise Mumbai Indians (MI).

The clip is from the days Maxwell used to ply his trade for the most successful domestic T20 franchise. At the fag end of Tendulkar's IPL career with MI back in 2013, Maxwell had the chance to not only take the field with the greatest but to also share partnerships with him and learn a great deal by watching him put in the hard yards in the practice sessions.

During one such session, Tendulkar was seen facing the throwdowns by one of the MI support staff personnel and playing his trademark strokes. Each of which Maxwell, who was standing behind him, tried to copy amusingly in a shadow-batting drill.

The clip is made special in the context of Maxwell's magnum opus versus the spirited Afghans as he walked in at a precarious 49/4, which quickly turned into a horrific 91/7 to make a remarkable upset a near-imminent possibility, and produced an ageless classic, scoring the first-ever double century by an Australian in One-Day history.

It was also the first double ton by an Aussie in the men's 50-over World Cup and the maiden score of 200 or more in a run-chase in One-Day Internationals.

Previously, only Chris Gayle (215) and Martin Guptill (237) held the feat in World Cups while Fakhar Zaman's 193 made versus South Africa in 2011 was the highest individual score in the second half of an ODI.

For his record-breaking knock, Tendulkar became one of the biggest names to have stood in awe of Maxwell's special on his home turf. The legend said it was the "best ODI knock I've seen in my lifetime."
