Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) ace spinner Varun Chakravarthy was the wrecker-in-chief with the ball as he helped his team crush the visiting Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Monday night.

Chakravarthy thanked co-owner Shah Rukh Khan and the team management for giving him a pep talk ahead of the DC game, which helped him find his mojo back.

Introduced into the attack after the Powerplay, Chakravarthy immediately created an opportunity with his first delivery, but unfortunately, Rana dropped Rishabh Pant. Nevertheless, the mystery spinner managed to dismiss Pant in the following over.

Chakravarthy continued his impactful spell by removing Tristan Stubbs and Impact Player Kumar Kushagra, leaving DC struggling at 111/8. The mystery spinner finished the game with stellar figures of 3/16 in four overs.

"Definitely, it was holding a bit and helped me to do well. No, nothing like that. The catch was dropped that was a better ball while the catch that was taken that could have gone anywhere. Shahrukh Khan and the entire management came and spoke to me personally," said Varun Chakravarthy after winning the player of the match award.

In the first innings, the KKR pacers dismantled the top-order by claiming the first four wickets within seven overs. This laid the groundwork for the spinners, with Chakaravarthy entangling the lower-middle order, dismissing Pant, Tristan Stubbs, and Kushagra, while Sunil Narine accounted for Axar Patel as DC finished at 153.

While the target of 154 posed little challenge for the Knight Riders, early wickets were crucial for the Delhi Capitals, which they failed to secure as KKR amassed 79 runs in the powerplay.

Despite a brief resurgence with three wickets between the 7th and 10th overs, Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer anchored the innings sensibly after the setbacks, preventing any chance for DC to regain momentum as the hosts won by seven wickets, with 21 deliveries remaining, marking their 6th win of the competition and reinforcing their second position.
