Indian captain Shubman Gill has finally reacted to the horrendous Test defeat against South Africa on home soil. On Wednesday, India extended their miserable streak in Test cricket, conceding a second whitewash inside thirteen months on home soil. After South Africa set a massive target of 549 runs, India crumbled again and were bundled out for 140 runs, losing the game by a massive 408-run margin.

Gill emphasises importance of failure in inspirational post

Reacting to India's turmoil, Test captain Shubman Gill, through a post on his official X handle, explained how failures make teams strong by allowing them to resolve their grey areas. It's worth mentioning that Gill missed the second Test against South Africa due to a neck injury. Experienced keeper-batter Rishabh Pant led the Indian side in the decider in his absence.

However, after his side suffered a crushing defeat in Guwahati, Shubman Gill didn't hold himself back and came forward to motivate India's passionate fan base, promising a quick turnaround.

In his post, Gill not only highlighted the importance of failures to stage glorious comebacks but also revealed that his men would maintain unity and overcome the tough phase through impactful performances in the upcoming assignments.

"Calm seas don’t teach you how to steer, it’s the storm that forges steady hands. We’ll continue to believe in each other, fight for each other, and move forward - rising stronger," Shubman Gill posted on X.

Shubman Gill's unfortunate injury was a major reason why India fumbled with the bat on two consecutive occasions in the Guwahati Test. Gill finished the year 2025 as the most successful Test batter, amassing 983 runs at an average of 70.21.

He has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI series against South Africa and is expected to make his comeback in the three-match T20I leg.
