The Asia Cup trophy fiasco is getting darker and darker with each passing day. India won the final against Pakistan but were not handed the trophy as the men in blue did not want to take their reward from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi.

The reason for it was that Mohsin Naqvi is also an interior minister in the Pakistan government, and in May this year, a serious cross-border altercation broke out between the two countries. Also, throughout the Asia Cup, there were tensions between India and Pakistan with no handshake gesture taking the centrestage after the group stage match.

Asia Cup trophy controversy continues to raise tensions between India and Pakistan

The Indian captain also openly talked about the Pahalgam attack and 'Operation Sindoor', and all of it did not go well with the Pakistan players and PCB. Therefore after India denied taking the trophy from Mohsin Naqvi, they are yet to get their reward and Pakistan and Mohsin Naqvi seems determined to keep it away from the winners.

Now, the former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has also asked Mohsin Naqvi not to give the trophy to India. He mentioned that India are the number 1 team, but their actions are third-rate and not accepting it from Naqvi is a disgrace. He also strongly mentioned that India should not hand over the Asia Cup trophy while speaking to the Pakistan news channel, Arynews TV.

"They are the No. 1-ranked team, but their actions are third-rate. Mohsin Naqvi will present the trophy. If they refuse to accept, they would be disgraced in the eyes of the world. The trophy should not be handed over,"  Ali told Pakistan's Arynews TV.

Basit Ali questions India's stubbornness

Basit Ali also questioned India's stubbornness in not accepting it from a man with an official position in ACC. He added that had Pakistan done the same with ICC chief Jay Shah, they would have been criticised by India.

"You're the No.1 team, you played well and won, but what is this stubbornness? Mohsin Naqvi is the head of the Asian Cricket Council. Suppose it had been an ICC event, and Pakistan refused to accept the trophy from Jay Shah, Pakistan would have been wrong there," said Basit.

Thus, it is clear that Pakistan's former cricketers and their major power-holders do not want to give India the Asia Cup trophy, and it would be interesting to see how things pan out in the future.
