In a major setback for Bangladesh, ace batter Towhid Hridoy will likely miss the second T20I against Afghanistan due to illness. Hridoy was ruled out of the series opener in Sharjah, and he is expected to be sidelined from the second match as well.

Towhid Hridoy unlikely to play BAN vs AFG 2nd T20I

Towhid Hridoy was one of Bangladesh's biggest positives in the Asia Cup 2025, amassing 139 runs across six innings at an average of 27.80 and a strike rate of 113.93. He played a pivotal role in keeping Bangladesh alive in the tournament with a stunning half-century that led his side to an emphatic victory over Sri Lanka in the Super Four stage.

However, as things stand, Hridoy has yet to recover from a fever, which also kept him out of the first T20I against Afghanistan. According to Cricbuzz, Hridoy is taking antibiotics and being monitored by the Bangladesh medical team. The final decision on his participation will be made once the Bangladesh players arrive at the ground.

"Not sure about the game (Hridoy's availability in second T20I against Afghanistan). He is having antibiotics and still unwell but better than what he was two days back or yesterday," the official told this website on Friday. So we will make a call (on Hridoy) after reaching the ground. He is being observed by our physio consulting with Debashish (BCB's medical head)," a Bangladesh team official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

In Hridoy's absence, Bangladesh fielded all three of Tanzid Hasan, Saif Hassan and Parvez Hossain Emon in the first T20I. With Litton Das getting sidelined from the entire tour, Hridoy's absence has certainly weakened the Tigers' batting unit on paper.

That said, Bangladesh had a magnificent start to the series, with power-packed half-centuries from Tanzid and Emon helping them chase 152 runs in the first match. If Hridoy misses out once again, the Tigers will stick to Saif Hassan as their number three batter, with Nurul Hasan playing the finisher's role down the order.
