Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali has sparked debate with his recent comments, suggesting that Babar Azam should step down as Pakistan's white-ball captain to concentrate on his batting. Ali's remarks come at a crucial time, with Pakistan facing a demanding international schedule.

Babar Azam, who was appointed Pakistan's T20I captain just before the World Cup, saw his team exit the tournament in the group stage, following a disappointing campaign in the USA.

Ali, speaking on his YouTube channel, noted that Babar’s last century came against Nepal, implying that relinquishing captaincy would allow him to focus on regaining his form as a top batter.

"He should quit the white-ball captaincy as well. He should focus on his batting. He is a premium batsman of Pakistan. So, he should perform well,” Ali said.

Ali also criticized Pakistan's tendency to make bold promises without delivering results, urging the team to move away from "talkative cricket."

“In the last 2-3 years, we have played a lot of talkative cricket. We will win the World Cup. We will win the Asia Cup. We will play in the finals in India. It was all talkative cricket. Now, it is time to deliver,” Ali added.

In all likeliness, Babar Azam will be seen in action in the Pakistan's upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting on August 21, under Shan Masood's leadership.
