'Shaheen Afridi's Bowling Will...' - Shahid Afridi's Bold Remark Ahead Of AUS vs PAK

Shahid Afridi picked Pakistan's potential match-winner with the ball for the marquee three-match Test series in Australia, starting December 14 with the opening clash in Perth. The former Pakistan captain believes the visitors require their star left-arm quick Shaheen Afridi to raise his game and standards to compete on the challenging tour Down Under.

As Shaheen gears up for only his second Test trip to Australia with the tag of the spearhead and Pakistan's most experienced pacer on the field, his father-in-law reckons the 23-year-old's new and old-ball bursts could well determine the Asian giant's fortunes.

Afridi Backs Shaheen To Perform In Australia

Shaheen, who has enjoyed a rapid rise in stature and reputation since the previous trip in 2019 within the Pakistan set-up, is one of the players given the responsibility to resurrect the nation's horrific track record on Aussie terrain.

"Shaheen Afridi’s bowling spells will be extremely important in Pakistan vs Australia. He possesses the skills to trouble any batter in the world. Bowling in Australian conditions will be a good learning experience for him, and I believe he will play a crucial role in the series," Afridi was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia.

Having travelled for multiple stiff tours to Australia in his heyday, Afridi underlined the stern nature of the challenge and hailed the mighty hosts for being a "formidable" opposition for Pakistan over the years.

"Aussies are traditionally strong, both mentally and physically. They are a very formidable side in their own conditions and facing them is always a challenge," he added."They have a very strong batting order, and I expect a good contest during the Benaud Qadir Trophy. The series will undoubtedly be a test of skills and resilience."

Pakistan have historically found it the toughest to travel to Australia, having now faced five consecutive Test series whitewashes Down Under in what is a shocking 14-match losing streak in the format. In fact, since the start of 2004, Pakistan have won just two of their 31 matches across formats against Australia in Australian conditions.
