'Kohli Fittest In The Indian Team And The World' - BCCI's Strength & Conditioning Coach

BCCI's strength & conditioning coach Ankit Kaliyar hailed Virat Kohli's unmatched fitness standards in the Indian set-up and world cricket and underlined why the modern-day legend is held to such esteemed levels by physios and strengthening coaches like him. 

Kaliyar highlighted Kohli's excellent fitness regime and rigorous physical training routine apart from a judiciously followed diet as the secret behind his remarkable transformation from a chubby West Delhi Punjabi boy, who grew up on a regular dosage of high-calorie food such as his favourite 'Chole Bhature'.

Kohli, who has himself spoken about his journey in various interviews, recalls the 2012 IPL as a major turning point in his career when he looked himself in the mirror amid a small phase of struggle for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and promised never to carry such poor fitness standards again. 

BCCI Coach Hails Virat Kohli's Fitness Standards 

"2012 IPL, came back home, saw myself, I was disgusted," Kohli told his India teammate Mayank Agarwal during their conversation for latter's YouTube show.

Since then, Kohli has retained astonishing fitness levels with a religious commitment provided to his physical transformation, including heavyweight lifting, regular extensive gymming and following an accurate diet at the expense of Delhite's deepfelt desires for certain delicacies. 

"Virat Kohli is the fittest player in the Indian team and the world. The reason behind that is that he's following a strict schedule," Kaliyar told Times of India during an interview. 

"Whether he's playing or not, he follows or takes care of his nutrition, training, supplementation, and conditioning part really well. He is very religious about his regime and routine. He's the fittest athlete in India and throughout the world."

It was under Kohli's successful captaincy tenure that he pledged to elevate the Indian team's fitness standards as a collective with the introduction of the yo-yo test as an integral part of the set-up, acting as one of the metrics to determine selection in the team.
