India's head coach Gautam Gambhir gave a befitting response to a query regarding Shreyas Iyer's non-selection for the upcoming England Tests. Led by Shubman Gill, India will take on the Englishmen in a five-Test series, for which Shreyas Iyer hasn't been selected.
Gambhir Gives Brutal Response To Shreyas Iyer's Test Snub
Despite performing admirably in the ODI format, including India's triumphant Champions Trophy campaign, Shreyas Iyer missed out on selection as the squad was finalised for the England tour.
The Mumbaikar has showcased a prolific batting form lately, exhibiting remarkable consistency and leadership attributes for Punjab Kings in the IPL.
Thus, considering Iyer is in sublime form, his exclusion from the Indian Test squad raised a million eyebrows.
Meanwhile, India's head coach Gautam Gambhir reacted to Iyer's snub for the very first time on Wednesday.
While speaking to the media, Gambhir faced a question regarding the Mumbai batter's Test snub despite his recent batting exploits in the IPL and domestic circuit.
However, the southpaw found it convenient to dismiss the matter with an epic one-liner, saying,
"Main Selector Nahi Hun (I am not the selector)".
Ajit Agarkar Explained Shreyas Iyer's Non-Selection
On the other hand, former fast bowler and BCCI selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar, while addressing the media, had clarified the reason behind India ignoring Iyer for the England tour.
"Shreyas had a good one-day series, played well in domestic as well but right now there's no room in Test cricket," Agarkar had remarked.
Renowned for his gritty batting, Shreyas Iyer played his last Test during the England home series last year. He could score only 106 runs across four innings at an average of 26 and subsequently faced axing from the Test setup.
