Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif has heaped praise on young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal while also claiming that he has the ability to break Virender Sehwag’s famous triple-century record in Test cricket.

Jaiswal, 23, once again showed his class during the second Test against the West Indies in Delhi. On the opening day, he played a brilliant innings of 175 runs, but unfortunately, a mix-up with captain Shubman Gill cut his innings short.

Despite that, his performance laid a strong foundation for India, putting the team in a commanding position by day 2.

Mohammad Kaif sees Yashasvi Jaiswal following Virender Sehwag’s legacy

Former cricketer Mohammed Kaif, meanwhile, was extremely impressed with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s consistency and temperament. He compared the young opener’s early Test numbers to legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

On social media, Kaif wrote that Jaiswal’s hundreds have consistently helped India get closer to victory and that the youngster has what it takes to surpass Sehwag’s record of triple centuries.

"Yashasvi Jaiswal is a batsman with the patience to score big hundreds and set new marks. In his first 26 matches, his numbers are as good as Sachin and Virat. Scoring at high strike rate, his hundreds mostly put India on path to victory. Sehwag ka 300 wala record, Jaiswal hi todega," Kaif wrote on X.

Virender Sehwag is a legend in Indian cricket and was the first Indian to score a triple century in Test cricket, achieving 309 against Pakistan in 2004 and 319 against South Africa in 2008.

Jaiswal is already in the ranks of legends

That being said, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s rise has been remarkable. Before turning 24, he has already scored 7 Test hundreds as an opener, a feat only matched by South Africa’s Graeme Smith.

Only Sachin Tendulkar has scored more Test centuries for India at such a young age.

Overall, his unique ability to combine aggression with patience has made him one of India’s most dependable batsmen in the longest format.
